Farewell

Saying our goodbyes to the homeland. With salmon.

When you have interests or talents in a variety of things, it's difficult for people to make sense of you, define you. As an artist, student, whatever. Not that anyone needs to be defined... but as I venture into the working world, I'm finding that I have to market myself pretty explicity in order to be successful.

In my office, I'm regarded as a masterful database wizard, but I absolutely cringe at the thought of that actually defining me as a person. But the fact of the matter is, no one here really cares about my creative abilities or my penchant for single-horned mythical beasts. There's a time and a place I guess, but I'm not about molding my personality to context. Maybe I'll think differently come my corporate law years, but for now, I like the fact that people can't really write me off as anything.

See. I'm different.

Time Flies When You're a Seasonal Californian

I can't believe we've been out here for this long already. We're leaving in two weeks, that's ridiculous.

It's okay, though. I miss the East Coast. And being on my own. And the metro. And beer.
(Don't judge me.)

And I miss my friends.

I'm surprisingly not lamenting the impending drive back. The road trip was fun, aside from the never-ending wasteland of scenic Nebraska. And the promise of a new David Sedaris audiobook makes the drive all the more enticing.

I have enjoyed my time here. Living in my grandparents house is sort of like living in another time, amidst old things and pictures and stories.
I'm feeling nostalgic for things I wasn't even alive to experience.
But I'm sure if I was alive in that time, my mad domestic skills would have been impressive.

P.S.
My exhibition is closing for the summer.
So if you're in Buffalo, like now, go check it out.

It's been over a hundred degrees the past couple days this week, but I still managed to conceive and execute a quilted winter coat. I know.

But it's so pretty.
